Easy Edible Playdough Recipe for Toddlers (with Nutella!)

What’s even more fun than a hands-on craft with lots of sensory appeal for toddlers and preschoolers?
One that you can eat when you’re finished!
This homemade Nutella playdough has only 2 ingredients and is completely non-toxic and 100% edible. And if you’re a fan of Nutella, then you already know it’s sweet an delicious!
We used dinosaur cookie cutters, candy eyes, and sprinkles to cute little brown dinosaurs, but of course you can make whatever shapes you like with this dough … or just have fun squishing and molding it.
Edible Playdough Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Nutella Hazelnut Spread
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- Mixing bowl
- Silicone spatula
- Wax paper (or other non-stick surface material for play)
- Optional: cookie cutters and sprinkles
How to Make the Playdough
- Measure 1/2 cup of Nutella Hazelnut Spread and put it in a mixing bowl.

- Begin kneading the dough with your hands to incorporate the sugar fully into the dough. (The dough will still be sticky at this point.)
- Add the remaining powdered sugar, and knead continuously until all the sugar is incorporated, and the dough is smooth and pliable, without being sticky.
- Break your dough into sections and push your favorite animal cookie cutters into it.
- Gently add candy eyes.
- Add candy sprinkles or whatever other edible decorations
- When you’re ready, eat your creations! This playdough is, of course, non-toxic, 100% edible, and super tasty.
How to Store Homemade Playdough
This Nutella playdough can be stored for up to a week in the refrigerator, either in a ziploc bag or sealed plastic container. When you’re ready to play with it, set it out until it’s room temperature, and then have at it.
