Looking for a festive treat that's simple and fun to make? These Christmas M&M Cookies are a hit with the whole family-chewy, colorful, and totally irresistible. Perfect for holiday baking with the kids or just when you want something bright and sweet.

A batch of Christmas M&M cookies, some stacked neatly on a wooden serving board and others scattered on the surface around it.

These cookies are especially popular during festive times like Christmas or holiday cookie swaps, but they're cheerful and easy enough to bake anytime you're craving a fun dessert.

Inspired by my favorite cookie recipes on this site, these M&M cookies go great with my soft and chewy Buttery Pecan Cookies, adding a crunchy, festive contrast to your holiday cookie lineup.

Cookie ingredients neatly arranged on a surface.

  • Baking soda helps the cookies rise and spread properly.
  • Salt balances the sweetness and enhances the flavor.
  • Unsalted butter softened adds richness and creates a tender texture.
  • Granulated sugar makes the cookies sweet with crisp edges.
  • Brown sugar packed adds caramel flavor and keeps the cookies soft.
  • Vanilla extract brings a warm depth of flavor to the dough.
  • Eggs hold the ingredients together and add richness.
  • Red and green Christmas-themed M&M's make the cookies colorful and festive.
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips add extra chocolate flavor to every bite.

Serve and enjoy with milk or your favorite holiday drink.

Hint: For extra cheer, try sprinkling a few extra M&M's on top before baking-so colorful and fun.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Gluten-free: Use a 1-for-1 gluten-free baking flour.
  • Nut-free: Stick to the base recipe and skip any extra nuts.
  • Half-and-half: Use half M&M's and half colorful sprinkles.
  • Add-ons: Swap chocolate chips for white chips or chopped nuts if you prefer.

💭Crucial Success Tips

Make sure not to overbake! Remove cookies when the centers still look soft-they'll firm up as they cool and stay chewy.

FAQ

Can I use regular M&M's instead of Christmas colors?

Yes, any color M&M's will work, but the red and green make them festive for the holidays.

Do I need to chill the dough before baking?

No, you can bake these right away, but chilling for 30 minutes can make the cookies thicker and chewier.

Can I use margarine instead of butter?

Butter is best for flavor and texture, but margarine can be used if that's what you have on hand.
