These Cream Cheese Cake Truffles are soft, sweet, and easy to make with just a few ingredients. If you need a no-bake dessert that's perfect for any occasion, you're going to love this recipe. The creamy texture, combined with the colorful sugar coating, makes them a fun treat that both kids and adults enjoy.

These treats are especially popular around Valentine's Day thanks to their festive colors, but you can switch up the sanding sugar to match any holiday or event. They're also great for birthday parties, potlucks, or just a weekend sweet craving.

This idea was inspired by my No-Bake Chocolate Marshmallow Sticks, and it pairs perfectly with this salty-sweet Christmas Popcorn. The crunch from the popcorn balances out the soft, creamy texture of the truffles for a snack combo that always disappears fast.

All the ingredients for the truffles neatly arranged on a flat surface.
  • Cake mix gives the truffles their flavor and forms the dough base.

How to Make Cream Cheese Cake Truffles

A large bowl with a cream cheese being mixed by a hand mixer.

Start by heating the cake mix. Place the cake mix in a medium bowl and microwave it in 30-second intervals. Stir well after each time. Continue this process until the cake mix reaches 165°F. You can check the temperature using a kitchen thermometer.

In a separate large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until it becomes light and fluffy.

Slowly add the cake mix to the cream cheese a little at a time. Mix well after each addition until the mixture turns into a smooth, dough-like texture.

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for about one hour. Chilling the dough helps it firm up, which makes it easier to roll into balls.

After the dough has chilled, line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Use a spoon or cookie scoop to take small portions of dough and roll them into 2-inch balls.

Two plates filled with pink and red sanding sugar, with one truffle ball being dipped into the sugar on one of the plates.

Pour the pink and red sanding sugar into separate small bowls or plates. Roll each ball in the sugar until it is fully coated.

Place the finished truffles on the lined baking sheet and refrigerate them for another hour, or until you are ready to serve.

Hint: Let the dough chill long enough in the fridge before rolling-it makes shaping the truffles much easier and less sticky.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Gluten-free - Use a certified gluten-free cake mix.
  • Festive twist - Swap sanding sugar for colored sprinkles depending on the season.
  • Extra sweet - Add mini chocolate chips or crushed freeze-dried strawberries into the dough.

💭Crucial Success Tips

Make sure the cake mix reaches 165°F to make it safe to eat without baking. Use a thermometer if needed.
