Ingredients

For the chicken:
  • 4 chicken breasts or boneless skinless thighs
  • 2 tablespoon sesame oil or vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Green onion for topping
For the sauce:
  • 2 tablespoon honey
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce or regular if preferred
  • 2 teaspoon sesame oil or vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoon orange juice
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds black or white, or both
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Other:
  • Half a lemon
  • Extra green onion for garnish

Method

  1. Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces. Rinse and drain the broccoli florets. Set aside. In a medium bowl, combine sesame oil, garlic, honey, soy sauce, orange juice, ketchup, sesame seeds, ginger, salt, and pepper. Mix well and set aside.
  2. If you have a steamer basket, steam the broccoli for 10–12 minutes. If you don't have a steamer basket, just boil it in a pot of water for about 7–10 minutes or until tender. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat 2 tablespoons of sesame oil. Season the chicken with salt, pepper, and cornstarch. Toss to coat evenly.
  4. Add the chicken to the skillet and cook for 5–7 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Pour in half of the prepared sauce and cook for another 6–7 minutes. Add the remaining sauce and cook for an additional 3–4 minutes. Then turn off the heat.
  6. Gently stir in the cooked broccoli with the chicken.
  7. Taste and adjust with more salt, pepper, or sesame seeds if desired.
  8. Squeeze in half a lemon for brightness.
  9. Top with chopped green onion before serving.
