Stainless Steel Spice Racks

Today we’re going to talk about stainless steel spice racks.

I like to cook, and I like to bake, and dealing with the many spices I use  has always been a challenge that I still haven’t been able to conquer. Right now I keep the spices in a plastic pie plate, which actually would be great if I had about six less spices, but as it is, it’s turning into a mess.

Since we already have stainless steel kitchen appliances, I decided to research stainless steel spice racks on Amazon.

Revolving Stainless Steel Rack with Spices Included

This revolving rack comes with 16 jars of spices (including, among others, pizza seasoning, crushed mint, and parsley) that are eligible for free refills for five years after your date of purchase.Pros: It spins and the jars don’t fall out; stylish look

Cons: Sometimes you have to push and wiggle the jars to get them in and out of the opening. Also, one reviewer describes this rack as “more futuristic than stylish” and like something from a science fiction movie, which now I can’t get out of my head when I look at the photo.

My Thoughts: The problem is that I don’t use pizza seasoning, crushed mint, or some of the other spices included, so I don’t think this one is going to work for me.

This stainless steel rack is filled with 20 spices instead of just 16, and the spice name is printed on the cap.
Pros: Space efficient, “sleek and stylish” (it’s not really green, like the photo), and easy to read the labels
Cons: Very hard to clean the dust that gathers on the bottom base; containers are “cheap plastic” with a metallic coating that chips off
My Thoughts: “Very hard to clean” is definitely a con in my book. But one selling point is that you can buy identical empty jars from Kitchen Collection or Bed & Bath for a few bucks and label and fill them with whatever spices you want.

Wall Mount Stainless Steel Spice Rack with Labels

This rack sits on the counter or mounts on the wall (screws are included.)

It doesn’t have to take up counter space? Okay, I’m liking this one already.

It comes with labels for many common spices, plus blank labels. So you choose the spices you want and fill and label them yourself.

I think we found a winner!

Since this only has 12 bottles, I would definitely need to buy two racks, but for the price, that’s not unreasonable.’

Another con is that the spice bottles are small — smaller than the ones you get a the grocery store, and too small to fit a teaspoon inside. That’s kind of a bummer.

I’m not sure I’m ready to commit to buying a spice rack just yet, but if I were, this is the one I would choose.

If you have a spice rack — or are thinking of getting of one — but aren’t sure exactly what all those spices are or what you’re supposed to do with them, check out this very helpful video.
