Why We Love Tusker House at Animal Kingdom

Tusker House Breakfast at Animal Kingdom

A few years ago I went to an eye doctor who had been to Disney World over twenty-five times and had her entire office decorated with Disney decor.

“The best meal I have ever had at Disney,” she told me once, “was the Tusker House breakfast.”

So I made a point of making us a reservation for breakfast at Tusker House last week. We all agreed that the meal was incredible!

Since Tusker House is located in the Africa section of Animal Kingdom, a lot of the food has an African influence, so the food was more varied and unique than your typical breakfast, but without being bizarre or incredibly spicy.

Of course, they also have basic things like Mickey Mouse waffles and fresh fruit if someone in your party doesn’t want to be adventurous at all.

I absolutely loved the Coconut Sweet Potato Casserole, the Sweet Plantains, and the Banana-Cinnamon Banana Pudding (oh my gosh, that was good!). I also really enjoyed the Basmati Rice with Lemon Cinnamon and Cardamon.

The girls particularly loved the scrambled eggs (I don’t know if there was something particularly “African” about the eggs, but Rachael thought they were amazingly good) and the Cheese Blintzes which came with an optional cherry or apple topping.

The meal also comes with something called Jungle Juice, which was a combination of orange, guava, and passion fruit juice that we loved.  (In fact, one of the girls — I won’t say which one — had two full glasses and then felt a little sick because it is so thick and sweet.)
Another plus to the Tusker House is that it’s a character meal, with Mickey, Goofy, and both Donald and Daisy Duck, all dressed in safari outfits.

I don’t know if this is typical, but it took us an awfully long time to get to see the characters, especially compared with our other character meals this week. I think we had all finished eating and still hadn’t seen anybody, or even see any sign of them heading our way. This wasn’t a big problem, but it could have been if we had been on a tight schedule.

I would definitely consider the Tusker House to be the best meal we had last week, and having characters made it an extra plus.
