Since I am (I’m very sorry to say) one of the most un-cool people around, it is kind of neat that the kids and I have started doing something that seems pretty darn cool.
We joined a rock wall climbing gym!
Rebecca has been wanting to go for a while, and I thought it would be fun (and was curious if I could actually do it), so I said, sure, let’s go to a place during Christmas break. I thought we would check it out one time, try it, and that would be the end of it, sort of like, “Oh, remember that time we went to the aquarium and it was really fun?”
So I was really surprised when both girls practically begged to join and go ever Saturday morning, if not more often. (They even suggested going during the week at 6am before school some mornings, although I’m not sure if that will ever actually happen.)
So we went ahead and scraped together enough money to join for one month, and today we brought Benjamin along as a “guest.”
I think it’s really neat that we’re doing this together. It’s great exercise, a nice challenge, and it seems like one of those things that (for lack of a better way to say it) is “good for a kid’s self-esteem.”
Or an adult’s, for that matter.
It will be interesting to see if we’re still doing it three or four months from now.
